We wish to acknowledge that this area of Kentucky, including the Farmington property, was at one time occupied by the indigenous people that lived in the Ohio Valley region, namely the Iroquois, Shawnee, and Osage tribes. Farmington is also one of many farms in the Louisville area where slavery existed in the years before the Civil War. From 1809 to 1865 Farmington was home to the Speed family as well as enslaved men and women. Farmington strives to tell the story of all people who lived and worked on this land and at Farmington through preservation and education. Farmington asks guests using the property to respect the memories and lives of all who came before us.
