Walk & Talk! This Month in the Veggie Garden
Do you dream of having your very own vegetable garden? Does the idea of having fresh produce like your own tomatoes, peas and beans served for your dinner cause you to salivate? Easy solution – let Farmington’s team of Jefferson County Master Gardeners teach you the A-B-C’s of vegetable and herb gardening in Farmington’s own Teaching Garden. We can make this dream happen!
In our monthly programs, with a combination of lecture and hands-on training in the Teaching Garden, we will show you how to grow produce throughout the season in raised beds, in the ground, in strawbales, and containers. You will learn about all the different crops you can grow and when seasonally to plant and harvest. You will know the best ways to garden sustainably and handle pest and disease problems quickly and in the healthiest way possible. We will cover lots of other topics too, such as methods for growing produce vertically, staking techniques, and much more.
Each monthly class will specifically target what’s happening in the vegetable and herb beds at that time. The MG gardening coach will discuss the plants that are currently growing in the beds, as well as ones that are soon to be planted. Participants will be able to learn about each type of vegetable and herb and ask about issues they may be having in their own gardens.
Bring your questions and your notebooks as we talk about and look at what’s happening each month in the veggie garden!!
We will provide as much information as possible during our Walk & Talks, given our limited programming time. For a more intensive learning experience, sign up for the Farmigardeners Veg Out! series that includes the monthly Walk & Talks and adds an additional lecture and hands-on sessions.
