Farmington will honor Walter T. Crutcher with the Anne Bruce Haldeman award for work in Kentucky landscapes, history, and preservation at the annual Evening in the Garden dinner on June 5, 2025.

Walter was born July 3, 1942 in Louisville, KY and is a graduate of Western Kentucky University.  His business career includes tenures at the Standard Oil Company, Mack Trucks, the Walter Wagner Company, and Commonwealth Commercial Realtors.  Besides real estate, Walter loves his farm in Shelby County and is an avid antique gun collector.  He is also a founding member of the Frazier History Museum and a consultant for Farmington.

A descendant of Phillip Speed, one of eight children born to Lucy and John Speed, the original owners of Farmington, Walter remembers his mother’s affection for the family home.  She felt it was an heirloom to be protected and cherished and instilled a duty in Walter to become engaged in its upkeep and preservation.

Walter married Cheryl Cooper on the Brand Pavilion during the COVID pandemic, which renewed his interest in becoming more involved.  Because of his efforts, Farmington is in a period of revival with numerous building projects being undertaken, expanded educational programming, and a rise in community collaborations, raising the profile of this Louisville Gem.
