Field Trips to Farmington

We offer K-12 School Programs Tuesday – Friday.  Your visit includes an education program, tour of the historic home and grounds, and an interactive activity.

Program Descriptions:

Slavery at Farmington – Students will meet some of the women, men, and children enslaved at Farmington and examine the runaway ads placed by John Speed.  This exploration will focus on the resistance to slavery and the difficulty in seeking freedom.

Abraham Lincoln Visits Farmington – We share stories of when Lincoln spent 3 weeks at Farmington and how James and Joshua Speed supported him during the Civil War and throughout his presidency.

A Day in the Life – What was life like for children in Kentucky during the 1800’s?  Students will take a closer look at the different lives of the children raised at Farmington.  Where did the Speed children go to school?  What were the jobs of the enslaved children?  What were favorite games children played?

We are happy to work with teachers to customize programs to suit curriculum and scheduling needs.  We offer indoor and outdoor spaces for lunch at no additional cost, as well as 18 acres for students to enjoy.

Program Costs:  $8 per student; 1 free adult chaperone for every 10 students; $10 additional adults

Program Length:  2 hours
