Manager of Visitor Experience

Job Description

Farmington is looking for a Part-Time Manager of Visitor Experience to create a welcoming environment for our guests and to coordinate and manage our volunteers.

Farmington is a historic hemp plantation located in Louisville, KY that was once home to one of Kentucky’s oldest and most prestigious families, the Speeds, as well as up to sixty enslaved individuals who provided the physical labor required to maintain the plantation.  It is also a site visited by Joshua Speed’s closest friend, Abraham Lincoln, that left an impression on the future President and his views on slavery. 

Farmington offers tours of the main house and grounds from Tuesday through Saturday each week, led by volunteer docents.  Farmington also operates a Museum Store, which is a satellite of Carmichael’s Book Store, stocked with items related to our interpretive historic period, branded Farmington gear, and local handmade gifts.

We are looking for a part-time manager to run the Museum Store and to coordinate tour scheduling, docent training,a and assignments.  The right candidate will have an interest in history and an outgoing personality focused on a positive visitor experience.

Hours for this position are Tuesday through Friday from 9:30 am – 3:30 pm, and Saturday from 10:30 am – 2:30 pm.  Additional hours may be requested for special events or as the need arises.  The rate of pay is $23 hour.

• Establish and manage relationships with Vendors
• Run daily sales reports
• Select and Buy inventory

Visitor Experience

• Lead Tours
• Upkeep of Introductory Exhibit
• Upkeep of lobby entrance area
• Upkeep of Museum
• Upkeep of Carriage House
• Distribution of flyers, informational tools
• Up to date Signage on Upcoming Events
