DESCRIPTION:Did you know Hemp was one of Kentucky’s earliest important crops? Explore its complex history and manufacture thru the people of Farmington. Learn about Abraham Lincoln’s connection to the Speed family and why his 1841 visit to Farmington was important. The Cultural Pass experience includes parent-led tours of the main plantation house and grounds\, and a hands-on artifact investigation with a KAS archaeologist. Docents will be available to answer questions.  Watch for additional information about Special Guest Experience days\, including the Jefferson County Master Gardeners leading a garden activities.  Bring you picnic lunch and blanket! \nAll Tours begin in the Visitor Center. Don’t forget to bring your pass with you! \nSuggested Age range:  6-21 \nRequirements: The families do not need to rsvp ahead of time but they will need to have picked up their Cultural Pass from the library before hand\, and need to bring the physical pass with them.   Children need to be accompanied by an adult. Cultural Pass admission includes 1 adult per pass/limit 2 free adults per family.  Additional guests not covered by Pass admission guidelines may purchase a discounted tour ticket for $5.00.

DESCRIPTION:The times they are a changing! Gardeners are among the first aware of the differences caused by climate change in our landscapes. We see the effects of the loss of biodiversity in our properties and those of our neighbors and the impacts on birds\, butterflies\, and other pollinators and critters. Gardeners\, as University of Delaware researcher and author Doug Tallamy attests\, can also be the first line of defense to begin to soften or turn these tides. This class will describe the changes we are seeing in our spaces and discuss the things that we can do differently – more ecologically – to produce healthier\, more diverse and sustainable spaces. \nMeet at the Pavillion. DESCRIPTION:The 2024 Cultural Pass is your passport to creativity!  Farmington is thrilled to welcome Cultural Pass visitors again this year. Youth & Senior Passholders welcome. All visits begin in the Visitor Center.  We will stamp your Passport and give you your tour packet- including the self-guided tours of the Main House\, and the grounds. Docents will be stationed throughout the museum to answer questions. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the grounds.    Last entry to the Main house is at 1:00. \nToday’s special guests/activities: Master Gardeners will be offering a special class about pollinators in the morning\, and available for garden tours/ information the remainder of the program.   Youth Passholders may complete and turn in a scavenger hunt for entry into a prize drawing at the end of summer. \nNon-Cultural Pass participants are welcome to visit and tour on Cultural Pass days also-Admission Tickets may be purchased in the Visitor Center. \nCultural Pass offers young people ages 0-21 and their families in the Greater Louisville area access to participate in arts and cultural activities provided by over 50 venues\, free of charge.  Must have your physical Cultural Pass passport with you.  Eligible youth may register and pick their Passports up at their county library.  Group Cultural Pass experiences may be arranged through Fund for the Arts.

Whatever your reason for planting herbs\, this ‘Basics’ class will discuss the ingredients you need to grow both annual and perennial herbs\, whether they thrive in sunny or shady conditions or need lots of moisture or very little. If you want a pretty all-herbs garden or you want to incorporate them into your perennial garden\, we’ll talk about a variety of herbs and how to plant then to achieve your goal.
